Functional Principle

Laser welding of thermoplastic polymersis generally based upon transmission of infra-red light. The laser beam goes through one molding, which is transparent to the infra-red radiation, and heats up the other part out of an absorbing plastic. By heat conduction, the transparent material melts, too.

A precise, strong joint zone is formed due to the resulting melt flow and the cooling phase under pressure.
