From the shop in the garage to global player
Back in 1946 Norman Branson was crafting in his garage in Danbury, Connecticut, developing ultrasonics for industrial use.
One of his first products was "Audigage". This was by today's standards a rather bulky apparatus that non-intrusively measured the thicknesses of mechanically or thermally stressed metal walls.
During that time this resourceful engineer devoted himself to developing another phenomena for industrial usage: the cleaning of parts by ultrasound. This field too has its importance today for the Branson corporation.
The breakthrough was achieved in the 60s with the use of ultrasonics for plastic welding. Since then the story of Branson's success was unstoppable. Vibration and hot plate welding followed. No other company in the world can look back on such an established foundation in the development of and experience in plastic joining technology as Branson.
The company soon expanded outside the United States. Subsidiaries or partnerships in major industrial nations make Branson with its staff of over 1,800 a globally operating corporation.
In 1984 Branson became an independent subsidiary company of Emerson Electric (www.emersonelectric.com), a globally operating corporation with about 120,000 employees and about $15 billion revenue world-wide. This gives Branson access to constantly updated databases of an international enterprise concerning all fields of application.
